In today’s lesson we are going to look at different health problems. We are also going to learn new vocabulary related to illnesses. Let’s begin!


1.- Introduction

A. Look at the pictures of some common health problems. Match the health problem to the picture.

A cold / The flu / A rash / Sore throat
Backache / Headache

2.- Speaking Activity

Answer the questions out loud.

  • How often do you see your doctor?
  • When was the last time you fell ill? What was wrong with you?

Now listen to your teacher answer the questions. Note down her answers any interesting words/phrases.

I don’t go to the doctor’s very often. I would say I probably go once every two years.

The last time I went to the doctors because of illness was probably about a year ago. I had an infection in my foot and it was really painful. The doctor gave me some antibiotics and my foot got better after a week.

Here are a few verbs to help you match the health problems to their symptoms:

  • To concentrate: Concentrarse
  • To ache: Doler
  • To swallow: Tragar
  • To hurt: Doler
  • To itch: Picar
  • To scratch: Rascarse

 

B. Fill in the gaps with the correct form of the word in brackets.
