“Hi, you must be Fiorella, the maid?”

“Yes, that’s me!”

“Great! Now, this is what you’ll have to do throughout the day. You will work from morning till dusk, around 6 PM.  You have to water the plants before you clean up the house. If you water them after cleaning the floors, you’ll get dirt everywhere and you’ll have to clean the floors again. So, after watering the plants, but before cleaning the floors, you must serve brunch to John, he is our librarian. He likes his coffee lukewarm, so heat his water until you start seeing some bubbles. Until then, you have to toast his bread and butter. He likes them very buttery. After serving John brunch, you have till noon to walk my dog Reginald. Reginald loves the park; it is just a few ten blocks away. You mustn’t walk Reginald until he is tired. Just circle the block a couple times and he is all right. After walking Reginald, you have to clean the floors before dusting the carpets and washing our clothes. After washing the floors, you need to check out at the front desk, but you don’t actually need to, as long as Gloria sees you come in or out.”

“I’m a bit confused...”

“Don’t worry, it’s a piece of cake! Just remember to do the things in the correct order. A good rule of thumb: before doing something, think if it will be ruined by something else later.”

 

Spanish:

“Hola, tienes que ser Fiorella la empleada doméstica, ¿no?”

“Si, ¡esa soy yo!”

“¡Excelente! Ahora, esto es lo que vas a tener que hacer por todo el día. Vas a tener que trabajar de la mañana al atardecer, cerca de las 6 de la tarde.

Tienes que regar las plantas antes de limpiar la casa. Si las riegas luego de limpiar los suelos vas a llevar tierra a todos lados y los vas a tener que lavar de nuevo.

Entonces, luego de regar las plantas, pero antes de limpiar los suelos, le tienes que servir un bocadillo a John, él es nuestro bibliotecario. Le gusta su café tibio, así que caliéntale el agua hasta que veas burbujas. Hasta entonces, tienes que tostar su pan con manteca. Le gustan muy mantecosas.

Después de servirle el bocadillo, tienes hasta el medio día para pasear a mi perro Reginald. Reginald ama el parque, está a unas diez manzanas de distancia. No tienes que pasear a Reginald hasta que se canse. Solo dale un par de vueltas a la manzana y está perfecto.

Después de pasear a Reginald, tienes que limpiar los suelos antes de sacarle el polvo a las alfombras y lavarnos la ropa. Después de lavar los suelos, tienes que anotar tu salida en el escritorio principal.

“Estoy un poco confundida...”

“No te preocupes, ¡es muy fácil! Solo recuerda hacer todo en el orden correcto. Una buena regla general: antes de hacer algo, piensa si luego lo puedes arruinar haciendo otra cosa.”.
