Friends and Family

1.- Introduction to lesson

In today’s lesson, we are going to talk about friends and family. We are also going to look at how to form different types of questions.

In the following pictures, you can see a picture of my mum, my best friend and celebrity pop star Madonna. These people are important to me for many different reasons:

I’m not going to explain to you why these three people are important to me. Listen carefully!

2.- Your turn…

Now it’s your turn to answer the following questions in as much details as possible. If you need help with your answers, look at what your teacher said about the three most important people in her life.

  • Think of three important people in your life.
  • What makes them important to you?

3.- Tapescript

My mum is important to me because she is loving, generous and extremely supportive. She supports me emotionally when I fell down and she supports me financially when I’m in need!

My best friend is important to me because we have a lot of fun together. We share many secrets together and she is very good at giving advice.

Madonna is important to me because she has been around since I was a young girl. I feel like we have grown up together and every time I listen to her music I feel happy and want to dance.

6.3.- Tapescript

Interviewer: Hi Tara! Thanks for your time. We’ve just got a few questions for you regarding your university days.

Tara: Ok, no problem.

Interviewer: When you were at university did you have a lot of friends?

Tara: Yeah loads. Everyone was so friendly and we all had so many things in common.

Interviewer: Did you have one particular friend which you got on really well with?

Tara: Yes, my flat mate Andy. He was great. We weren’t on the same course but we both went to the same uni.

Interviewer: Where did you meet Andy?

Tara: We met at the student bar. I was working as a barmaid and he was working in the kitchen. We clicked straightaway. I think it’s because he was so funny!

Interviewer: How did you come to live together?

Tara: Well, at the end of the first year I had to move out of my flat and I was desperately trying to find someone else to live with when Andy told me he was in the same situation. So it seemed right to move in together.

Interviewer: Do you still see Andy?

Tara: No, unfortunately, not at all. He moved to Hong Kong immediately
after finishing the course and I think he’s only been back once since then.

Interviewer: Do you keep in contact?

Tara: Yes, of course, we send each other an email from time to time and we use facebook to stay in contact. I know that if I ever need anything he’s there for me.

Interviewer: Do you keep in contact with other people from your course?

Tara: Some of them I do but with many we have simply drifted apart. We all lead different lives now. Some are married and some have children!
