2.- Grammar: Verb + Infinitive

In English, when you have two verbs together sometimes the second verb is in the infinitive.

Here are some examples:

  • I want to go to the park. 
  • He decides to walk to work. 
  • My grandchildren promise to draw a picture for me.

 

Here are some more verbs that are followed by the infinitive:

To want: querer
To decide: decidir
To promise: prometer
To agree: acordar
To refuse: negarse
To hope: esperar
Would like: gustaría 
To prepare: preparar
To forget: olvidar
To plan: planear
To arrange: organizar
To offer: ofrecer 
To learn: aprender
To prefer: preferir 
To have to: tener que

 

Here are some examples:

  • They decide to take a taxi home.
  • She promises to do her homework. 
  • We arrange to play golf next weekend. 
  • Don’t forget to shut the door when you leave.
  • I would like to buy a car.
